About my interest in psych

Image result for clinical psychologyThe branch of psychology that I am most interested in is clinical psychology. This is the psychological specialty that provides continuous and comprehensive mental and behavioral health care for individuals and families. This is a very diverse specialty within psychology, it covers all ages, multiple diversities and varied systems.

Some of the issues that clinical psychologists deal with are disability, discomfort, intellectual, psychological, social and behavioral maladjustment as well as minor adjustment issues. Clinical psychologists work in health and social care settings. Some examples of job settings are hospitals, health centers, social services and Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS).

Carl Rodgers is one of the most founders of clinical psychology. He is known for his person-centered approach to therapy as apposed to earlier methods. His techniques have been used in psychotherapy as a way to focus more on the patients/clients. His works earned him a Nobel Prize.

Most clinical psychologists get their degree in psychology, and continue to get their doctorate in clinical psychology although some jobs are available with only a master's degree. There are two different types of doctorates for this specialty. A PhD in Psychology, also known as a Doctor of Philosophy in Psychology, which focuses more on science and research. A PsyD, or a Doctor of Psychology focuses more on clinical work.

Personally, I chose to research clinical psychology because it deals with the medical aspect behind psychology and actually interacting with patients long term. I want to be a physical therapist when I graduate from college. I want to work with patients and continue to work with them until they recover from whatever they may be going through and that is what clinical psychologists do.

Your organizational skills on this topic were wonderful and it really helped me to understand clinical psychology and how this is important to you. I am looking forward to learning more about your interest in clinical psycology.

  3. Hey Kourtney! I liked how you took interest in the clinical psychology while trying to connect it with your passion of being a physical therapist. Going into the medical field, clinical psychology will work extremely well as you work with patients of all ages in their rehabilitation. I actually went the sports psychology route but still trying to connect it with the same end goal as you of being a physical therapist. Good post overall, good luck in becoming a physical therapist in the future.
